We want you to feel prepared and comfortable before your first volunteer shift. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about volunteering with Habitat.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes appropriate for the work you’ll be doing. We recommend dressing in layers and checking the weather if you’ll be volunteering on a build site.

Do I need to bring tools?
No! Habitat provides the tools, equipment, and instruction you’ll need for your volunteer shift. Just bring yourself and be ready to lend a hand.

How do I get started volunteering?
Getting started is easy! Complete our online volunteer application, and a member of our volunteer team will reach out to help schedule your first shift and answer any questions you may have.

Do I need to complete a volunteer waiver?
Yes. All volunteers must complete a waiver before volunteering.

Adults 18+ complete pages 1–4 and should include an emergency contact.

Volunteers under 18 complete pages 1–3 and page 5 with a parent or guardian.

We recommend completing the waiver in advance and bringing it with you on your first day. If you’re unable to print it, copies are available on-site to complete before your shift.

What should I expect on my first day?
When you arrive, our team will welcome you, review important safety information, and provide instructions for the day. No previous experience is necessary—we’ll make sure you feel comfortable with your assigned tasks before getting started.

Can I volunteer on a regular basis?
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers who want to make Habitat part of their regular routine. Opportunities vary based on our construction schedule, ReStore needs, and other projects, so check our volunteer registration system for current openings.
