Volunteers are the backbone of what we do at Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County and we could not do it without you!

Whether you are experienced or not, you are vital to the success of our mission though your spirit, enthusiasm, knowledge, and willingness to serve others. There are many opportunities where you, your friends, co-workers, and families can get involved in a truly rewarding experience like no other. To get started, complete the Volunteer Application.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED!

ReStore Associate
Use your skills to volunteer at the Schenectady Habitat ReStore by assisting customers, serving as a cashier, organizing inventory, and a myriad of other tasks. ReStore helps to keep more items out of landfills and proceeds go towards building our houses! It’s a win-win!

To volunteer for a construction or ReStore shift, visit our online registration to sign up.

ReStore Truck Diver/rider
Take a ride in our ReStore truck and travel throughout the community picking up donations.

Construction
Come build a house with us!

Volunteer at a Schenectady build site on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30am – 2:30pm. No experience is needed as we provide onsite training and instruction. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age. Minors must receive parental consent to volunteer.

Lunch Program
Make or buy lunch for our construction volunteers!

FAQs

1) How do I sign up to volunteer?
Complete our Volunteer registration and waiver

2) How old do volunteers have to be?
ReStore volunteers have to be at least 14 and construction volunteers have to be a
least 16. Minors must have written parental consent before volunteering.

3) Do volunteers need to be skilled builders to go on the build site?
No, volunteers should simply be interested and willing to work. We will teach you
everything you need to know!

4) Do construction volunteers need to bring their own tools?
No, we provide you with any tools you need to get the job done.

5) What should I wear to volunteer?
If you’re working on a construction site, dress appropriately for the weather. We suggest layers, waterproof shoes, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Closed-toed shoes are required.

6) Should I bring water?
We will have water on site.

7) Can I bring a group to volunteer?
Yes! Please call 518.395.3412 x109 to inquire.

8) Can I complete my court ordered community service at Habitat?
Sometimes. This decision is made on a case by case basis.
